CHINA-U.S. STRAIN: Where does the relationship go from here?

Trade tariffs, the COVID-19 blame game, South China Sea, Huawei and ZTE, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Xinjiang, Tibet, TikTok, the expulsion of Chinese academics, and this week, new U.S. regulation threatening the visas of 400,000 overseas Chinese students. Everywhere you turn, relations between China and the U.S. seem to be in peril. Speaking on Thursday, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of the bilateral relationship, saying China is still willing to “grow China-U.S. relations with goodwill and sincerity” but warning against some in the U.S. treating the country as an “enemy” or an “opponent” out of political ideology.
