The relationship between the US and China has deteriorated to its lowest point in more than 40 years, international relations experts say. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, US President Donald Trump has threatened to scrap Washington’s phase one trade deal with Beijing and increase tariffs, while China’s state media outlets have stepped up attacks on US political figures. Some political observers said the two nations are now on a “Cold War footing”.
